# lil-terminal

> A practical PHP terminal for shared hosting, designed to work from the browser without SSH, Composer or Node.js.

lil-terminal is delivered as a self-extracting `lil.php`, keeps the core compact, installs optional PHP modules into `.lil.php`, supports Base and Minimum packages, ten interface languages, a browser code editor, `.lil` automation and optional floating web-terminal integration.

## Important product facts

- Maintained runtime: PHP 8; frozen PHP 7.4 compatibility build available.
- Core generation: 1.
- Core generation 1 is free without a time limit for personal noncommercial use. Organizations and commercial work require one license per active production deployment after a 40-day evaluation.
- Commercial licenses are perpetual for core generation 1, include updates within that generation and do not use DRM or remote activation.
- Commands execute through PHP APIs; lil-terminal is not a Bash emulator and does not depend on `exec()`.
- Repository API: `repo.lil.dog`; technical headers are routing discriminators, not authentication.
- Authorization is physically included or removed at build time.
- Public documentation examples use a fixed sandbox; the website never executes terminal commands.
- Core 1.5.13 is the current production release in generation 1. The current command surface includes the active-file `$` token, extension-aware file opening, linear `.lil` scripts, structured Base output and browser file upload.
- Current value-taking commands use `:` for values while `>` is reserved for output redirection; interface packages are managed explicitly through `include`.
